Morgan Brand

MORGAN YACHTS

The history of Morgan is the story of the meeting between tradition and design,  between mahogany and composite materials, between old world details and modern technology.

It is a story inspired by  the innovative genius and the revolutionary pencil of Leopoldo Rodriquez, who represents the fourth generation of one of the oldest families in the Italian naval tradition, founders in 1887 of the Rodriquez Shipyards in Messina.

In 1991 Leopoldo Rodriquez commissioned the Baglietto Shipyard to build the “Morgana Blu” an 83ft. aluminum yacht designed by Franco Anselmi Boretti which recaptured the lines of the Fast Commuters used in New York at the beginning of the last century. This yacht was to mark the creation of the Morgan brand.

The meeting of Leopoldo Rodriquez with the designer Tom Fexas resulted in the idea to build boats which, for the first time, would unite the timeless appeal of the Fast Commuters and the Lobster Boats, typical of New York and Maine, with the techniques of modern construction. The Fast Commuters are elegant and fast boats which were used mainly at the beginning of the last century by the American upper middle class as a fast means of transportation to commute to Long Island from Manhattan, even loved by the Ford and Kennedy families. On the other hand the Lobster Boats are typical working boats soon turned into leisure boats, born in New England during the Fifties and originally used for lobster fishing.

Flair, innovation, love for the sea and for navigation are the elements which emerge from this new adventure of Leopoldo Rodriquez.

In 10 years Morgan has become an international icon in classic motor yachting and today boasts the most extensive range in the segment with 5 models from 33 to 93 feet.

In 2007 the Aicon Group from Messina, quoted on the Standard segment of the Italian Stock Exchange, acquired the majority stake in Morgan so as to differentiate and develop the Aicon range through the entrance in the Dinghies, Lobster Boats and Fast Commuters segment. Today the construction of the boats has returned to the district of Messina.

MORGAN’S RANGE

The Morgan range, which at present is the most extensive in its segment, is made up of a Dinghy, a Lobster Boat and three Fast Commuters of an unmistakable line. Tom Fexas and the Besozzi-Selvetti and Alfredo Magazzù Firm have subtly reinterpreted the classical lines, basing their design on the seaworthiness and the elegance which characterize the whole range, creating a style which together with the essence of wood, precious fabrics and the ambiance of the past, makes the Morgan yachts real cult objects appreciated by the most demanding boaters the world over.
